Smoothie King Tips


I love smoothies.  But, I also love to watch my carbs and sugar, and smoothies aren't the best option for that. I actually worked at a Smoothie King in college, so I know all the ends and outs of what goes into their products.  Beware that most of their fruit smoothies have 30 plus grams of sugar! Even when you “make it skinny”, which means to leave out the turbinado sugar, you are still getting a lot of carbs and sugar.  The ever popular Angel Food smoothie has 61 carbs and 52 grams of sugar, even when you make it skinny­čśÉ.


A smoothie here and there isn’t always bad for you.  Just be careful with drinking several a week, and always eating a meal with it. ALWAYS “Make it Skinny”. Asking for this option can cut out 50-100 calories and 11.5-23 grams of carbs, depending on the smoothie.

 

Here are some great lower carb/sugar options for you next time you visit Smoothie King: 

 

Chocolate Firm and Burn: This one is not on the menu, so you have to ask for this one, but it's my FAVE! Sometimes, the Smoothie King staff doesn't know this particular smoothie, but usually someone there knows how to make it. It has one scoop of Gladiator mix (super low carb) and one scoop of their Lean mix (lower carb) as well as some peanut butter. It has 36g of protein, only 6 grams of sugar, and 12 carbs.  It's delish and filling!

Coffee High Protein Vanilla - NO Turbinado: 24 carbs (minus 3 carbs for the 3 grams of fiber) 12 grams of fat and 110 calories

The Shredder Vanilla - 30 carbs, 2 grams of fat and 283 calories - any flavor has only around 5 carbs, as long as you don’t add a lot of sugary fruit

Green Tea Tango - NO Turbinado - 29g of carbs (minus 2 for fiber ), 182 calories, 3 grams of fat

Original High Protein Chocolate - NO Turbinado - 19 grams of sugar

How I Style Joggers

I was hesitant to get on the jogger bandwagon as first- I feared looking too much like MC Hammer!  But these Gap joggers changed my mind because of the fit and overall comfort of them.  I like to purchase clothing where I get the most bang for my buck i.e. getting multiples uses out of them.  Since I'm a working momma I need clothes for work + play and these fit the bill for both!

I tend to stick to my trusted white + black + tan when styling these pants.  This color combo is tried and true and never goes out of style.  I like to keep the top simple (not fussy) so the shape of the pants can stand out.  These are also great transition pieces into fall and would look amazing with some fun booties and a jean jacket!

Hot Yoga Plus Espresso Flow



Sometimes, during the work day I don't have a full hour in my schedule to devote to working out. If you are have a little time during lunch and want to get a quick stretch/workout in, check out Hot Yoga Plus Franklin's Espresso Flow class at noon.  This class is on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday's. This class is great, because it's only 45 minutes! The studio is not too hot either, so getting back to work is not a problem.  The 45 minute class gets your heart rate up, helps you get your stretch on and is muscle building.


I love this studio.  It is so welcoming and laid back.  All the teachers are great, and I always learn something in the classes.  I love incorporating Yoga into my fitness routine.  It goes so well with my other workouts like Barry's Bootcamp to keep my muscles stretched, and help with the long lean look we all strive to achieve.  Remember, I am all about #mixingitup!




Also check out Tabata flow class during lunch time!  This one is on Tuesday's and Thursday's.  This is a power flow class with high intensity intervals in between.  This one will get your heart rate up and sweaty.  But, they have showers there, so its all good!  This class also has a great, upbeat music playlist.  I love combining cardio and yoga!
