Healthy Guide to the Holidays

Here are some tips on how I plan to survive the holidays without falling off the wagon too much! Thanksgiving is almost here with Christmas lurking around the corner which means spending time with family, eating, and drinking. These holidays for sure include extra calories of fun. There is nothing wrong with indulging on the holidays and enjoying treats + drinks. My goal is to always not get too far off track and keep it “healthy” where I can.

Plan of action:

Get your day/morning going with a healthy start!
-I am a huge advocate of this. Even if you are going to have a big day and night- start your day off with a healthy breakfast. I really like to do a protein shake that is lower in carbs and high in fiber. This gives you control in the morning and gets your mindset right for the day.

FIBER
-I will say it over and over again. Getting lots of fiber in your diet will help you stay fuller longer and make you less hungry. It also promotes regularity and acts like sponge to soak up calories. And it cancels out carbs... I could go on and on. Fiber can be found in vegetables, whole grains, and fruits.

Overload your plate with veggies and lettuce.
-I don’t offer to cook hardly anything but I do offer to bring a salad so I know there is something healthy that I can get my hands on. Make the plate green is always the goal! Throw in other things you want but always try to get a green with every bite.

Plan a workout.
-Time off work always means planning a workout for me. My husband and I take turns going. I always eat better on the days I workout, and if I do indulge, I don’t feel as guilty so its a win win. Lots of gyms have classes even on Thanksgiving. I am teaching Yoga Sculpt at Core Power Yoga (Brentwood location) on Friday at noon, Saturday & Sunday at 7 AM if you want to come get your Sculpt on!

Plan ahead.
-“Meal planning” doesn’t have to mean prepping meals and freezing them for the week. Think ahead of how you can make any part of the meal somewhat healthier. Bring GG crackers, a light dressing, a healthy app, a low calorie mixer, to set yourself up for success.

Cauliflower everywhere.
-I am loving this cauliflower alternative craze. I really haven’t had any of it that I didn't like. Cauliflower rice, stir fry, stuffing, gnocchi, My personal favorite is cauliflower mashed potatoes which would be a great dish to bring!

Drink lots of water.
-Make it your goal to drink a gallon of water a day. There are only a million benefits of water but it can help you feel fuller and better.

Keep your cocktails low in sugar.
-I always mix my booze with soda, water, or even Stevia Ginger beer. If you have to add some juice to your cocktail, mix with the majority of soda and splash the juice.

Most importantly enjoy and don't be too hard on yourself.
-The most important thing is spending quality time with friends and family.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

XOXO,
Crystal

Current Crushes

It's that time of the week where I share my top 5 Current Crushes!  Many of these items are related to things that could be used for gift giving or to gift to yourself.  I'm sure you are being bombarded with blogger daily gift guides but this momma has been too busy with my main job to get them rolled out yet (the struggle is real y'all).  I'm hoping to get some started next week and I will let you know!  But in the meantime enjoy these weekly picks!

Top 5 Current Crushes:

1)  Amazon earring sets
If you aren't shopping Amazon for fashion items you are really missing out!  Their earring sets are super affordable and my go-to for trendy jewels.  You can also shop all our Amazon picks here.

This 2 pack of metallic earrings are going to get my through all my holiday parties in style!  And you can't beat a $14.90 price tag.

Crystal found this amazing set of 9 fringe earrings in 1 single pack! They come in practically every color so you could keep some for yourself and share some with a friend.

2)  Early Black Friday Sales
Several retailers are already rolling out their sales which I'm thankful for since I'm traveling next week.  I picked out a couple of early sale picks for y'all!

Y'all know by now that I'm obsessed with Madewell black jeans.  They are hands down my favorite and I'm going to have to scoop up this high-rise button up pair with a frayed hem.  Madewell is having a 25% off sale with the code:  STARTEARLY

I'm also obsessed with this cross body strap bag strap which can give an old bag a new twist.  Don't forget to use the the code:  STARTEARLY for 25% off!

I know this was the hot item for Christmas last year but for those that didn't grab one then now can snag the Insta Pot from Walmart for $59!

This has been on my hubby and I's list for awhile and we might have to pull the trigger on this for ourselves!  This Nespresso coffee maker is marked down from $249 to $139!

3)  Uniqlo:
This Japanese company prides itself on simplicity + quality.  Their slogan says it all:  Simple made better.  I love their fleeces and coats specifically!  Also, they have wonderful men and children selections as well!
This pile-lined fleece coat is an absolute steal + under $50!  You can easily dress it up or down and looks very warm.  It also comes in a brown or beige color!

4)  Hearth & Hand with Magnolia from Target Christmas decor:
Their newest holiday collection has more modern designs which I love!  Some of the past farmhouse decor wasn't really my in line with my style but I'm digging the more simplistic designs this year.

I just scooped up this adorable "Joy" doormat!  It's perfect for adding just a little bit of holiday cheer on your front porch.

This 2 pack of festive kitchen towels would make a great hostess or teacher gift.  I love the simplicity of the pattern because it can go with any one's holiday decor!

5)  Amazon Coat:
Again, here I go again with my love for Amazon- ha!  If you follow us on Instagram then you know that I fell in love with the famous "Amazon coat".  There are websites created just to honor this cute + but very warm coat.  This is also on Oprah's favorite things list and you know that Oprah would never steer you wrong!

I wore the famous Amazon coat on our super chilly Halloween this year and I was super grateful that it kept me so warm.  This would make a great gift for a mom, sister, aunt, etc... It comes in several colors too!

Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas

It's almost that time of year!  Thanksgiving truly is my fave holiday- the pressure of gift giving is off the table and it's all about eating!  This year my family is changing it up and we are headed to sunny + warm Miami, FL for Thanksgiving.  Our kids are out of school that entire week so we thought we would take advantage of their time off and enjoy some fun in the sun.  So that being said my Thanksgiving outfit will be spent in more of resort wear (which seems strange but I'm excited!).  But I wanted to pass along more typical turkey day attire ideas!

My normal Thanksgiving day look is something super comfy (and forgiving after all that food!).  This striped cardigan sweater has been a fave of mine for years.  It comes in several colors and I love the oversized look- it feels like you are wearing a blanket!  This would also look fab paired with white jeans and some over the knee brown boots.  I'm also wearing a black cami, circle belt, Madewell high waisted black jeans, and brown mules.

Turtleneck sweaters are everywhere right now and are always classic!  I love this rib-knit sweater with slits on the side.  It's long enough to wear with your Spanx leggings and then add some festive earrings and you're done!

You could pair this animal print long sweater with your Spanx leggings as well!  I love the length of this and you can really never have enough animal print!

If you prefer a little bit dressier of a top then this wine-colored floral lace top would be gorgeous!  You could pair it with some jeans and suede heels and be done!  This top is currently on sale at 40% off making it under $60.

If you are wanting to dress it up more with an actual dress then this animal print dress with a tie waistband would be perfect.  It also comes in black with a white tie waistband.  You can wear this with tall boots or pumps.

Current Crushes

It's been awhile since I've done a "Current Crushes" blog post because life has been getting in the way.  But I'm going to make an effort to get this blog series back up and running!  With holiday season upon us there is need for gift + outfit ideas so I figured this series can help from time to time.

Here are my Top 5 Current Crushes:

1.  Animal Print Coats

This relaxed-fit leopard coat has already been in heavy rotation since we are already experiencing winter like temps in Nashville.  I love the funnel neck and of course the print!  It looks expensive but is under $100- you can also get 30% off today with no required promo code.  Also wearing round gold sunnies, similar cream sweater dress, similar gold chain necklace, gray tall boots, and Alexander Wang mini duffle bag

Here is another animal print budget-friendly coat. I love that this double breasted peacoat has casual lines and can be worn with practically anything.  Note:  this brand runs large so definately size down.  This is steal at only $58!

2.  Lip Treatments

I recently discovered this lip mask and it is hands down my fave new beauty product!  This gel cream masks works in as little as 3 minutes.  My lips get so dry in the winter months so I'm constantly looking for something to help.  I like to leave this on for 3 to 5 minutes then follow up with your favorite balm to lock in the moisture.  Dr. Kaplan believes that you shouldn't scrub your lips due to them being very sensitive.  This is a way to exfoliate and achieve a plump + smooth look without scubbing.

I still like to use my tried and true Laneige lip mask as well!  I actually use this more as a balm after I do the exfoliating mask.  Or I use this at night as well.  I've even gotten my kids hooked on this to use before going to bed since their lips can get very chapped.  Both of these lip treatments would be make great holiday gifts!

3.  Cozy Pullovers

If you are like me then you can't get enough of cozy + comfy pullovers.  This quarter-zip sherpa one is only $10!! So you can literally get one in every color.  I'm digging this natural color and the red one as well.  Note:  the reviews are saying that sizing runs small so I'm going to order one size up.

If you like more of a full zip pullover than this sherpa one with an athleisure vibe would be perfect!  I love the cuff detail and it comes in 3 other colors.  The blush color is too cute as well!

Again, I can't stop with animal prints!! My girlfriend had this leopard print sherpa sweatshirt on the other day and I knew I had to immediately scoop it up.  It seriously is the softest thing ever and so on-trend with the print.  Again all of these cozy pullovers would make great gifts!

4.  "Dressy" Leggings

I've been looking for a dressier verson of a black legging to wear for work and Amazon to the rescue!  You could easily also wear these for other occasions too.  I wanted something that had more coverage and looked more like pants with a stitching detail.  These look like they fit the bill and would pair perfectly with oversize sweaters.

I also love these high-rise leggings with the zipper detail!  These are under $30 and the zipper detail is great for pairing with some fab heeled booties.

5.  Flocked Artificial Christmas Tree

I've been wanting a flocked artificial tree for a couple of years now.  My hubby said that I can pull the trigger this year finally!   I love this natural cut detail and of course it being pre-lit.  Target circle is offering 20% off holiday items including trees ti Nov. 9th so now is the time to buy a tree if you are in the market for one!

If you are looking for a skinnier version for an entry or smaller space then this flocked version is your answer!  The 20% off applies to this tree as well until Nov. 9th.
